Lower Carbon Solutions
Drive your fleet into the future: Helping you on the journey to lower carbon
Our purpose is reimagining energy for people and our planet. We want to help the world reach net zero and improve people’s lives.
As we continue to use transport and logistics to support our economies and lifestyles, one key area we need to focus on is the decarbonization of corporate fleets.
With our heritage, infrastructure, support and investment, we’re uniquely placed to help fleets undertake this journey to lower carbon.
3 steps to a lower carbon fleet
We’re here to support you on your journey to lower carbon:
Step 1
Understand*
We can help you identify your vehicles’ carbon emissions, giving you a better understanding of your fleet’s energy use.
TCO Co-Pilot – Receive a full TCO breakdown and emissions profile of your fleet on one digital platform.
Step 2
Take action
We can offer you products and solutions that help you reduce carbon emissions related to your fleet’s energy use, with particular focus on cost and the impact on your business.
bp Fuel & Charge – Simplify fleet management, get more energy choices including lower carbon fuels and low carbon energy. Transition to EVs and take advantage of a wide range of networks and integrated charging solutions from bp pulse.
Step 3
Offset
In addition to helping you take action to lower your carbon emissions, we can provide a convenient, reliable carbon offsetting service.
bp Target Neutral – Helping you offset your emissions whilst supporting global communities
*The service offered within step 1 ‘Understand’ provides a simplified overview of your fleet’s carbon emissions. This service is not compatible for reporting purposes on the corporate sustainability of your fleet’s business.
bp’s position on LNG for commercial fleets
Delivering energy to commercial fleets is at the heart of our competences.
In leading the energy transition, natural gas plays a key role on our way to net zero.
Our commitment to offer gaseous low carbon alternatives to the transport sector translates into a rapid development of a pan-European LNG refuelling network for trucks. Coverage will be ensured by a mixture of bp own assets and partnerships fostering the adoption of LNG in the European logistics sector.
We aim to offer a network of > 140 LNG stations by then end of 2022 as per below overview.*
Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO)
An alternative to fossil diesel for your decarbonisation plans
What is it?
HVO is a renewable, paraffinic diesel fuel that is chemically similar to the paraffinic components in fossil diesel and offers lower lifecycle CO2e emissions.
How is it sourced?
HVO can be produced from renewable raw materials such as vegetable oils and waste oils.
This fatty acid feedstock is hydrotreated and then further processed to produce the finished HVO.
HVO from bp?
Meets the specifications for paraffinic diesel fuel (EN 15940/ASTM D975) and as such can be used directly in fuel dispensing infrastructure and engines that are approved to use EN 15940 fuels.
Can be used as a 100% drop-in replacement for EN 590 diesel where permitted / approved without the need for any modification to infrastructure or vehicles.
Avoids the capex costs of buying new vehicles.
Can deliver a lifecycle CO2e saving of up to around 90% vs. 100% fossil diesel depending upon the source.
Can be provided with sustainability information.
There may be a minor increase in volumetric fuel consumption for HVO vs. EN 590 diesel on a like-for-like basis.
Multi energy HGV hubs to address future needs of customers
Multi-fuel
Truck hubs of the future combining electric, natural gas and hydrogen, alongside a leading convenience offer
Renewable energy
With our renewables portfolio we can provide competitively priced energy to end-user
Infrastructure
A widespread network of hubs close to customer depots and key freight routes such as the Rhine-Alpine corridor
Suite of charging solutions
Working with OEMs to lead European market across all energy & charging types
Digital
A simple accounting process for the customer
bp’s vision is to create a pan-Europeangrid of multi-energy
truck hubs supporting the primary TEN-T corridors
The rationale
Highest HGV traffic volumes are Germany, Belgium, Netherlands and the UK
50% of the TEN-T network carries more than 9,000 HGVs per day
Focusing on highest density nodes >20,000 truck movements per day
bp will deliver extensive TEN-T coverage via dedicated greenfield truck hubs and upgrades to key forecourts within bp’s existing 2,700 truck stop network
The vision: scale, efficiency and systematic delivery
A Proof of Concept
Currently in an advanced planning stage – target 2023 to test out the multi-energy concept
~6 acre site positioned in the UK close to Strategic Road Network (M1, M6 & A5) in close proximity to high density warehousing
Pass car & LCV parking
Truck parking
EV truck charging
Driver Welfare Facilities incl. Food & Beverages
Bio-diesel refuelling
Truck-wash
Bio-LNG/CNG refuelling (longer term H2 potential)
NB: Future Hydrogen footprint currently not defined within the plan
We are developing material, low-cost hydrogen positions & infrastructure to meet customer demand
Multi-fuel Developing material green and blue hydrogen supply projects*
Lingen Green Hydrogen – 100 MW from 2025, potential 500 MW by 2027
GetH2 – 100 MW from 2024, potential additional 100MW in 2025 and 2026
H2-Fifty – 250MW from 2025
H-Vision – 750 MW by 2026,
additional 750 MW by 2030Spain (Castellon) – 60MW from 2024
Imports (including UK, Middle East, Australia, Spain – multiple GW-scale opportunities)
We are in action to be the lowest cost hydrogen supplier:
Growing and diversifying supply portfolio in advantaged regions
Driving capex cost reduction through deep project experience
Integrated renewables’ supply mix (offshore wind, solar, PPAs)
Strong CCUS capability & gas trading portfolio
Experienced advocacy teams (4 IPCEI projects)
